CF Innovation Labs
BI Migrator

Leave Tableau. Keep every dashboard.

BI Migrator moves your Tableau workbooks to Microsoft Power BI or Amazon Quick Suite automatically: data sources, calculations, sheets and dashboards. Your analysts review the result instead of redrawing it.

The problem

Your company chose a new BI platform. Your dashboards did not come with it.

The decision is made: Power BI, or Amazon Quick Suite. What is left is years of Tableau work that nobody wants to rebuild by hand.

Hundreds of workbooks

Every department built its own. Many are still used every morning, and nobody has a full list.

Logic in Tableau's language

Calculated fields, parameters and level-of-detail expressions have to be rewritten for the new platform, one by one.

Two licences in the meantime

Every month the migration runs, you pay for both platforms. A manual rebuild makes that period long.

How it works

Four steps, run by software, checked by people.

01InventoryEvery workbook, source and calculation listed 02TranslateCalculations into DAX or Quick Suite fields 03RebuildSheets, filters and dashboards on the target 04VerifySame filters, same numbers, side by side
Step 01

Inventory

BI Migrator reads your Tableau workbooks and lists what is inside them. You see the size of the job before anything moves.

  • Workbooks, sheets and dashboards
  • Data sources and their connections
  • Calculated fields and parameters
Step 02

Translate

Tableau calculations are rewritten for the target: DAX measures for Power BI, calculated fields for Amazon Quick Suite. Data sources become a semantic model or datasets.

  • Calculations translated, not retyped
  • Naming kept, so your users recognise their reports
Step 03

Rebuild

Sheets and dashboards are recreated on the new platform with their visuals, filters and parameters, ready for your analysts to review.

  • Dashboards built in the target's own format
  • Grouped by department or project, the way you migrate
Step 04

Verify

We check each migrated dashboard against the original: same filters, same numbers. Anything that needs a human decision is written down, not hidden.

  • Side-by-side check per dashboard
  • An exceptions list your team can act on
Two targets

Wherever your company is going, the dashboards go too.

What you get

Not just moved dashboards. Proof that they are right.

Migrated content

Your dashboards, calculations and data models on Power BI or Amazon Quick Suite.

A mapping report

Every Tableau object and where it now lives, so nothing is lost on the way.

An exceptions list

What could not be moved automatically, why, and what we suggest instead.

Side-by-side checks

The numbers on the old and the new dashboard, compared and signed off.

A handover

A session with your BI team so they own the new reports from day one.

How we run it

Start small, prove it, then move everything.

Pilot

One project or one department, on your own Tableau workbooks. You see the migrated dashboards and the checks before deciding anything else.

Migration in waves

The rest moves department by department, each wave verified and handed over before the next one starts.

Switch-off

When the last wave is signed off, Tableau can be retired and its licences ended.

Next step

Start with a pilot on your own dashboards.

Tell us which platform you are moving to and roughly how many workbooks you have. We come back with a pilot proposal.
